Getting to Hvar from Dubrovnik

If you are arriving at Dubrovnik Airport
Dubrovnik’s modern and very easy-to-use airport is located outside the Old Town of Dubrovnik, near Cavtat, about 30 minutes away. The airport symbol is DBV.

Changing money at the airport
Although prices in Croatia are often indicated in Euro, the official currency is the kuna, which usually hovers between 5 and 5.2 to the $1 and about 7. to 7.3 to the 1Euro. All business accepts kuna and although some may accept Euro, we advise you to change your currency into kuna.
There is a bank inside the airport that is open 7 days a week. 365 days a year. There is no commission for exchanging money—the official central bank exchange rate for the day is what is used. In addition there are many ATM’s in the bank lobby. If you have a debit card, just use it and indicate how many kuna you want. Again, there is no commission locally—but your local bank will charge you 1% , more or less, so before you leave, find out what they charge so you’ll know in advance.

Sea transfers from the airport – DIRECTLY TO HVAR TOWN
We can take you and your group directly from the airport to the Dubrovnik waterfront or the nearby cruise ship/yacht port of Gruz, for transfer by speedboat to Hvar Town. The door to door trip takes about 3.5 hours. The price depends on the size of your group and the boat, with an average cost of 10,800kn or 1,500 EUR for a group of up 8 people. (with a delicious homemade optional lunch and wine)

Our experienced driver will meet you at the airport. It’s a two hour drive to reach Drvenik. From there we will take the ferry to Sucuraj, on the “far” side of Hvar Island. And then from Sucuraj it takes hour and half to reach town Hvar and your hotel. The drive from Sucuraj is very scenic and we highly recommend stopping the village of Humac at the Franicevic household for a delicious introduction to Hvar cuisine, with wine!

Approximate rate for this private transfer is 450 EUR for up to 6 people in a van. For more people and a larger vehicle, please ask us for a quote. For the optional lunch, with wine, the per person charge is 30 EUR, minimum 4 people.

Ground transportation from the Airport

Bus
Croatia Airlines and other firms provide a very convenient shuttle bus service for $6 (30kn) that meets every plane or has very regular service. You don’t need to be a Croatian Airlines passenger, so just put your baggage underneath and hop on. So as you leave the airport, just look for the platform with buses into Dubrovnik. It’s just 30 or 40 minutes from the Airport to the Pile Gate, the main entrance to Dubrovnik Old Town.

Private mini van or taxi
If you prefer to take a mini-van or taxi from the airport into Dubrovnik, we can easily arrange this for you and since there is only one main exit from customs, the driver will have a sign with your name on it so he or she will be easy to find. Average cost of this transfer is 350kn – 400 kn, depending on your exact pickup location.

Car rental
All of the international car rental companies as well as local firms have booths in the airport lobby. We work with preferred providers that offer us special rates which we pass on to our clients. So if you would like to rent a car and take it on the ferry with you to have on the island, please let us know what size/type you need for you, your family and luggage and we will be happy to assist you.

Driving to Hvar
Although the drive to Hvar is easy, with good roads and great views (and signs in English!), you will need to allow almost a full day to get here—which is why we advise coming from Split if you have the opportunity to do so.

The easiest way to Hvar via Dubrovnik is to go to Drvenik, a little coastal town which is half way to Split and takes about three hours. Once in Drvenik, you need to take a car ferry that goes to Sucuraj, a village on the “far” side of Hvar Island. The ferry departures from Drvenik are very frequent and the crossing is just 45 minutes.

Here’s the Fall/Winter time table--in the summer season, the ferries are even more frequent.
From Sucuraj it’s a 1.5– 2 hour drive to Hvar Town on some wonderful, but tricky, narrow winding roads—so take your time, and although the views are splendid, keep your eyes peeled on the road ahead, especially before the town of Jelsa (about 40km from Sucuraj).

If you have the time and enjoy driving, you will definitely enjoy travelling through such picturesque villages and ‘’wilderness’’. And since you have a day, why not stop and buy some buy lavender, or have a lunch – a good place is the eco village and restaurant Humac at Jakov and Keti Franicevic.
